Teens Making Change
Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA) supports ongoing youth activities in school districts across our
Local Service Area (LSA). HCCA provides assistance to youth groups who engage in addressing community needs around improving physical activity and nutrition, preventing substance abuse and decreasing tobacco use and exposure.
Ways that HCCA has supported youth advocacy programs and engaged youth to play a role in substance abuse and tobacco use prevention:
- Sticker Shock is a campaign designed to reach adults who might purchase alcohol legally and provide it to minors. Stickers warning about the penalties for furnishing alcohol to minors are placed on all multi-packs of beer, wine coolers, and other alcohol products that might appeal to underage drinkers.
- Partnering with the Maine Youth Action Network and linking youth advocacy groups with ongoing activities.
- Involving youth with the local service area-wide Unsafe Drinking Work Group
HCCA is pleased to announce the availability of mini-grants to support and coordinate teen involvement in physical activity, nutrition, tobacco, and substance abuse-related activities. For more information and an application, contact
