Healthy Communities of the Capital Area

Action to Prevent Substance Use

Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA) provides support and resources to local community partners, including law enforcement, schools and youth organizations, parent groups, and other organizations to increase service area wide substance abuse prevention efforts. It works through a Drug Free Communities funded coalition, the Southern Kennebec Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) to engage the community and to plan and take a broad based, multi-faceted strategy.

As a programmatic partner in preventing and reducing substance misuse and abuse, HCCA integrates substance abuse prevention into many other school and youth, worksite, and community initiatives that it undertakes.

As the corporate host, funder and provider of staffing to support the coalition, HCCA works hard to help the coalition develop and sustain itself as an independent community based entity that takes actions that are high priorities to the coalition as a whole, and that will, over time, have a powerful impact on the problem.
