Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA) is a coalition of local people who work locally to improve the health and quality of life in our communities.

Mission
To convene people, organizations and communities
to collaborate on quality of life and public health issues.

Vision
Happy, thriving, interconnected people, organizations, and communities
who are empowered to improve their quality of life.

Making Connections...

HCCA brings people together to share ideas, make plans and take action to create and support healthy communities through

* Sharing information
* Holding public meetings
* Staffing workgroups
* Hosting community forums
* Providing technical assistance to schools and worksites
* Assessing community health status, strengths and needs

Improving Lives...

HCCA is the local Healthy Maine Partnership working with individuals and organizations and state partners to

* Reduce tobacco use and exposure
* Increase physical activity
* Improve nutrition
* Prevent alcohol and drug abuse
* Link people to health screenings and community resources to prevent and reduce the impact of chronic diseases

A healthy community is one that provides for the basic needs of all its members. It is a place where people come together to make the community better for themselves and their neighbors. It is also a process in which local people work together on local issues they care about.

Becoming part of the Maine's New Public Health Infrastructure

HCCA is also part of a statewide system of Comprehensive Community Health Coalitions (CCHC) throughout Maine that are:

* The local presence within the state’s Public Health Infrastructure
* Part of the State Health Plan
Our Healthy Maine Partnership School Partner is MSAD #11, Gardiner Area Schools

* Our Local Service Area (LSA) includes the Southern Kennebec County towns of Augusta, Chelsea, Farmingdale, Fayette, Gardiner, Hallowell, Litchfield, Manchester, Monmouth, Mount Vernon, Pittston, Randolph, Readfield, Vienna, West Gardiner, Wayne, Windsor, Winthrop, and sometimes Richmond.
