Supports for community groups wanting to take action

HCCA provides support upon request to community groups that want to work to prevent and reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in their community.  During the winter and spring of 2008 HCCA convened a workgroup of small teams from several communities in southern Kennebec County.  These teams focused on underage drinking and unsafe drinking among young adults, and:
  • Reviewed the size and nature of the problem
  • Learned about low cost/no cost things that can be done to reduce unsafe drinking, and
  • Identified top priority things that they can do in their community right now.

Since then HCCA staff have been working with local community groups to identify things that they want to do next, and help plan and carry out those projects.
